Club Achievements 2011-2012

Nova Scotia Team Championships (December 9-11, 2011)

The team put up some great performances at the Nova Scotia Team Championships with a 4th place overall finish as a competitive team. With 15 total teams competing this meant that the Halifax Wavecutters with smaller numbers were one of the highest performing clubs in the competition, if not the highest when you consider points per swimmers won.

 

New Brunswick Open Provincial Championship (February 3-5, 2012)

The team stormed to a 1st place overall finish at the New Brunswick Provincial Championships with Lucy McLeod winning the Overall Top Female Swimmer award and Colm Somers winning the Top Male swimmer in the 13-14 age group. There were a total of 14 teams competing at the swim event.

 

PEI Short Course East Coast Championships (March 1-4, 2012)

The team produced another number of outstanding performances to come overall 6th place at this very prestigious competition where 33 different teams competed for points.

 

Long Course East Coast Championships (July 5-8, 2012)

The team came in 5th overall in the long course East Coast Championships and further marked its status as one of the high performing clubs in Nova Scotia. A total of 32 teams competed for the honors and that it was a fiercely contested swimming competition.

The team set a number of provincial records at the meet:

200 Medley Relay (Girls 11-12 age group) : 2:17.62

200 Free Relay (Girls 11-12 age group) : 2:03.70

800 Free Relay (Girls 11-12 age group) : 10:03.42

Relay Teams consisted of : Catriona Somers, Juliana Pouliot, Annie Wang, and Madeline Leckey.

The club also had an overall individual high point award in Colm Somers, who won the 13-14 age group honors.

 

Canadian Age Group National Championships 2012

A very prominent 6 out of the total 14 swimmers of the competitive program at Halifax Wavecutters qualified for the national event. The swimmers who qualified were:

Slongo, Devon

Somers, Colm

Pouliot, Juliana

Edmonds, Ruah

Leckey, Madeline

Simmonds, Angelina

An outstanding performance by Juliana Pouliot when she broke the Nova Scotia provincial record in the 11-12 age group in the 50m butterfly going 30.38.
